Don Crow

A painter and collage artist, Don Crow has been awarded numerous grants and distinctions, including the Pollak Award for Excellence in the Visual Arts as well as inclusion in the Virginia Museum exhibition, Un/Common Ground. With an MFA in Painting from VCU, Crow has taught at VCU in Richmond and Doha, Qatar, and worked as visiting artist at Oregon College of Art and Design in Portland. Crow’s work has been exhibited at Reynolds Gallery, 1708 Gallery, Plant Zero and with Virginia artists in the traveling exhibition Constructs. His fragile paper collages at one end of the spectrum and his large digital prints and abstract paintings at the other draw attention to objects as obvious constructions and as invisible processes. Recent mixed media projects have investigated photography and laser etched surfaces to explore the tensions between muteness and expressiveness as surfaces and images become subsumed by time, memory, and digital records.

Beezy Bogan and Rita MacNelly

Beezy Bogan and Rita MacNelly are collaborating artists merging sculpture and painting. Inspiration comes from the streets where cameras and sketch pads allow space to observe and collect images unobtrusively. In their studio, they transform one reality into another. Their goal is not to strictly record, but to give the viewer an overall sensory experience. Short stories closer to fact than fiction.

Linda Hollett-Bazouzi

Linda Hollett-Bazouzi is a well-known painter of local, regional, and international landscapes. A devoted and driven en plein air painter, she travels with her oil paints and paint knife down the street and around the world. In 2013 she travelled to Tunisia as part of one hundred artists from around the world who gathered in Monastir, to visit and paint the region. She does not consider her plein air works ‘studies,’ and they are not done with larger pieces in mind. Rather, they are finished works that stand on their own, that may or may not inform later studio pieces.

She is drawn to areas and scenes that we see but don’t notice, that seem unimportant—until development or destruction comes. Her work is often done in a series, expressing change over time, within herself or in the location. If there are any words to describe the drive behind Hollett-Bazouzi’s work, it would be, “Tick-tock, tick-tock”.

Kathleen Markowitz

Kathleen Markowitz lives and works in Richmond, Virginia. She began painting soon after receiving an MS degree in Gerontology from Virginia Commonwealth University.She later studied at the Accademia Di Belle Arti Pietro Vannucci in Perugia, Italy and with the New York School of Visual Arts study abroad program in Barcelona, Spain.

Kathleen tends to work in series moving between several mediums: monotype, collage and oil painting. She likes the sheer physicality of making a painting and the tactile engagement of materials. She is drawn to texture, markings, and subtle renderings of a previous picture plane. She thinks of her working surface as layered space.

Debbie Quick

Debbie Quick is the owner of Clay Ground. She is an artist and educator with over 20 years of instruction and art-making experience. She received her B.F.A. in ceramics with teaching certification from Tyler School of Art at Temple University and her M.F.A. in ceramics from the School of the Arts at Virginia Commonwealth University. Since 1999, she has taught in public schools, provided private lessons, coordinated and participated in community programs, taught ceramic classes, and instructed at the undergraduate and graduate level. She has received the following residencies; Soaring Gardens, the Rodin Artist in Residence at the Virginia Museum of Fine Art, Studios at MASS MoCA, Monson Arts, a Fiskars. Quick was the inaugural 2017-18 faculty research fellow in the Arts Research Institute at VCUarts. Her work has been shown regionally and internationally, including as part of the Tasmeem conference in Doha, Qatar. Recent solo exhibitions were “Remnant Accumulation” at Sediment Gallery, Richmond, VA and “Errant” in the Up Front Gallery at ArtSpace, Raleigh, NC.
